Three More Classes To Resume Physical Learning In 3 Weeks

Date:

Three more classes would soon report back to schools for in-person teaching.

Reports suggest that education stakeholders have reached an agreement to reopen schools for the second phase.

According to the proposal, physical learning for Grade 3, Standard 7, and Form 3 learners would resume. The proposal is to be presented to the President.

If the proposal is adopted, it will amply that those in Grade 1-2, Standard 5-6, and Form 1-2 and pre-primary learners will remain at home.

Education CS Prof. George Magoha on Monday said the ministry will on Wednesday engage President Kenyatta over a plan to fully reopen schools.

Nicholas Gathemia who represents the Kenya Primary Schools Association said failure to reopen the learning institutions soon enough would cause headaches for teachers.

Other stakeholders are reportedly also concerned about the inequity as many learners are still at home, while others are learning in schools.

Nicholas Maiyo, the Kenya Parents Association chairman, said most parents are finding it difficult to explain to Grade 4 learners why they are at school while their siblings in upper classes are still at home.

“Latest December we should have all learners back in school… we have observed and realized that children at school are more disciplined than while at home,” he told the Star.

Maiyo noted that since no vaccine was available, schools should borrow from other countries what they have done. He added that students should be restricted to the use of reusable masks since learners may be tempted to recycle disposable masks, thus exposing them to infection.

According to the revised school calendar, the second term, which started on October 12, will end on December 23 to allow learners to break for only one week.

Learners will then report back to school on January 5 for another 11 weeks.

KCPS candidates will sit for their exams between March 22 and March 24 while Forms will sit for their KCSE exams between March 25 and April 16.
