The Story Behind Balenciaga’s Ruined Sneakers Being Sold At Kshs214, 725 Per Pair

Date:

For about three days now, top luxury fashion company Balenciaga, has been a trending topic on social media platforms especially on twitter across the world.

This is after the company unveiled its latest type of sneakers, distressed sneakers dubbed Paris Sneakers, that was launched earlier this week.

The most disturbing thing about the sneakers is the price.  The ruined shoes will retail at  Kss214, 785 per pair with the cheapest sneakers costing about Ksh72,000.

There has been mixed reactions from netizens with most of them disagreeing with the new product. Some say that the sneakers are for the rich people mimicking the poor while others termed it as gross and offensive.

“Balenciaga’s new “distressed” range of shoes starting at $625 is basically the rich cosplaying as poor,” read a comment on twitter.

While unveiling the sneakers, the company said that they come in red, black and white colors adding that the shoes will soon be available across the world.

“A retooled classic design interprets mid-century athleticism and timeless casual wear in black, white, or red, with a white rubber sole and toe. It is finished with distressed canvas and rough edges, affecting a pre-worn look. The Balenciaga Paris Sneaker comes in lace-up styles, either high-top or backless mule,” Balenciaga said on its website

The major idea behind the ruined and tired shoes is a campaign to inform the world that their sneakers are meant to be worn a lifetime.

“A dedicated campaign shows the shoes extremely worn, marked up, and dirtied. These still life portraits, by photographer Leopold Duchemin, suggest that Paris Sneakers are meant to be worn for a lifetime, ” the company said.
