Former Kenya Film Classification Board CEO Ezekiel Mutua is back in the creative industry after being appointed as the CEO of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK).
MCSK made the announcement through a statement revealing that his role as CEO was effective as of March 25,2021.
“The Board of Directors of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Ezekiel Mutua, MBS, as its Chief Executive Officer, effective Friday 25th March 2022,” MCSK said.
The society further called upon the local and international stakeholders to accord Mutua necessary support and goodwill in the execution of his duties.
Having served in various top positions, MSCK is confident that Mutua will bring wealthy experience to the society.
“Dr. Mutua @EzekielMutuabrings to MCSK great wealth of experience in leadership, media and communications, having served in various top leadership positions, both in the public and private sectors,” the statement further read.
MCSK settled on Mutua after he emerged top among those who were interviewed for the position.
Mutua on the other hand was pleased about his new role saying that this round he is coming as a defender for the rights of musicians and not a regulator.
“I have received with profound gratitude my appointment to the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK). Happy to rejoin the creative industry, this time not as a regulator, but as a promoter and defender of the rights of musicians,” Mutua shared.
Mutua was unceremoniously kicked out of KFCB in August last year before his contract term expired.
He was immediately replaced by Christopher Wambua, who previously worked for Communications Authority of Kenya.
Sources reveal that Mutua and other top officials of KFCB were under investigations over being paid allowances and salaries irregularly.
Mutua’s term was to come to an end on October 25, 2021.
