The Big Mess That Awaits President Uhuru On His Return

Date:

Blood, death, tears, and an explosion waiting to happen in Jubilee are some of the things that await President Kenyatta to fix as he lands back into the country from Franc via Egypt where he had made a stopover.

The political environment that the President left in the country when he flew out a week ago has turned into an ugly scene mered with catcalling and chest-thumping.

From an alleged coup attempt with the Jubilee that saw Deputy President William Ruto storm Jubilee Pangani offices, and his subsequent ‘suspension’ to chaotic scenes witnessed in Murang’a on Sunday, the country’s political temperature has been marred with anxiety.

Top of the President’s agenda will be Deputy who has now openly defied him as he engages in ‘premature’ 2022 campaigns against his wishes.

“I have always maintained that we have an agenda as a government that we want to complete. We are two years from an election, and this is not the time to start campaigning,” President Kenyatta said on Friday in an interview with France 24.

BBI

The President and his handshake partner Raila Odinga are also expected to receive the BBI report, one thing he believes will be the cohesion antidote to the country that seems to be heading back to heightened political divisions.

During the interview, President Kenyatta said BBI was his focus now before turning his eyes to the succession politics, which is already tearing his party apart.

“The handshake was meant to help the political class agree on those issues that divide them, allowing Kenyans in future to choose a leader and have a system that is inclusive; with acceptable election results,” he said.

“It is for that reason that I reached out to the opposition. Of, course some feel that this reaching out is meant to sideline others. There is nothing more to the contrary.”

Handshake agenda

The President added he hoped that those opposing him in his party would work with him to realize the handshake agenda.

“My prayer is that those in my political party would work with me to help me achieve this for Kenya, and our people. I am hopeful that we shall work together towards this even with my deputy,” he said.

However, during his one-week absence from the country, the political drama witnessed will force President Kenyatta to rethink on how he wants to work a way forward.

In the coming days, the country will be watching how things unfold with the ruling party. The country will witness whether Jubilee leaders led by Secretary-General Raphael Tuju will actualize their threat to kick out DP Ruto from the party leadership

On the other side, the country will see whether Ruto’s allies will materialize their threat to ‘occupy’ the party headquarters with the boss around.
