Tamati Mauti’s Family Defend Him Against Murder Allegations

Date:

The family of Tamati Mauti, who was implicated in the murder of BBC project manager Kate Mitchel, is yet to receive his postmortem results.

According to his father Dan Mauti, the postmortem on his son’s body was conducted on Saturday November 20 but they have not seen the report.

He defended his son against the murder allegations saying that he does not understand how his son was labelled a murderer.

Dan further said that his son had a bright future ahead. He also denied knowing Kate Mitchel.

Dan said that the family was aware of Tamati’s fiancée Darya Kish who is a presenter at NRG radio.

“My son had a fiancée whom we all know and we knew of the plans for their wedding which was to happen soon,” he stated.

Dan claims that he learnt the death of his son through his wife after she was called by a person who claimed to be a lawyer.

The caller informed her to rush at the Kilimani police station following the death of Tamati.

He has however urged the police to speed up investigations to get to the root of the matter.

“The police keep telling us that they are investigating the matter. The management of the hotel where I hear my son died has also not told us anything,” he stated.

Tamati’s friend and collegemate said that he was a decent and calm man, unlike what the media is portraying him to be.

“He was an easy, decent guy – far from the shocking news that we have been treated to,” she said.

Tamati graduated with a degree in International Relations and Journalism from the United States International University Africa (USIU).

According to reports, he is said to have killed the BBC employee in her hotel room and fell to his death after jumping through the hotel room’s window as he tried to evade the hotel’s security officers.

The incident happened on Friday, November 19 at Ibis hotel in Westlands, Nairobi .It is also alleged that Tamati was in the same hotel with his girlfriend on the fateful night.
