The suspect identified as Lokucha Louriyen shot Police Constable Simon Orang’i leading to his death.

Louriyen is accused of assaulting a woman and the deceased had gone to the suspect’s home, in company of the complainant, her husband and two other officers, to arrest him when the incident occurred.

“Robert Maina reported that he was accompanied to the home of the accused with the aim of making inquiries and possible arrest by Simon Orang’I and Maxwell Okwanya. They were led by the complainant and her husband Peter Ekeson,” part of the police report read.

According to the report, the assault complaint was filed on November 18, under OB number.33/18/11/2021.

The suspect is said to have came out of one of his houses armed with an AK 47 rifle and began shooting at them aimlessly.

The police report says that the suspect was spraying bullets while surrounded by children and 2 women believed to be his wives.

In the process, the deceased officer was shot in the abdomen and right arm while the complainant’s husband was shot in the leg.

“The suspect then escaped into the surrounding thicket. The complainant managed to escape unhurt,” the report further read.

The two officers who were at the scene rushed the casualties to the Lodwar County and Referral Hospital but Orang’i was pronounced dead on arrival. His body was transferred to the morgue awaiting postmortem.
