Reuben Kigame is among many whose dreams of succeeding president Uhuru Kenyatta have been unfortunately cut short.
Kigame who was vying on an independent ticket had his application rejected by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
Kigame had a meeting with IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati on Sunday, where he complained of being discriminated against.Â
Chebukati however refused to give him another chance to present his paperssaying that his hands were tied by the law.
“Friends I have just finished a meeting with @IEBCKenyachair Chebukati where I requested not to be discriminated against and to be given a chance to present my documents like my competitors. He said his hands are tied by the law and he will not receive my documents. What’s this?” He shared it on Twitter on Sunday.
Taking to social media on Monday, Kigame further complained while briefing Kenyans on events that saw his name struck out of presidential aspirants list.
“Facts: 16th May I am gazetted as presidential Aspirant. 23rd May prenomination meeting with Chebukati who gives us 2 days to submit signatures and ID copies. 25th May I submit hardcopies and excel in soft and given until the 29th to correct format,” The gospel singer said.
Kigame noted he has the IDs and signatures that IEBC required before clearing a candidate yet the commission would not clear him
“While aspirants have been disqualified for not having signatures and ID copies, I have them but I am still deemed non-compliant. Chebukati has given other aspirants multiple opportunities to present their signatures and even top up where there is shortage.
“Read this thread as a whole and tell me, friends, why am I being barred from contesting in the August elections? Why would this country treat me like this? Somebody tell me why,” he lamented.
