A woman was left in disbelief after discovering that the man he married did not have functional legs just after their colourful wedding.
The couple got married a few months ago after dating for quite some time.
Ndayisenga Jean De Dieu and his wife Deborah ‘Borah’ Muteteri, met in 2018 at a function before the beginning of their love story.
Speaking to Afrimax, Jean revealed that he lost his legs at the age of 7 years. At the time, Jean together with his family were forced to flee to Congo because of insecurity.
They later decided to return home but on their way, a bomb exploded near where they were. His legs were severely damaged and he went into a coma for two months.
“I woke up and found one of my legs had been removed,” he said.
The doctors went ahead to remove his second leg which was not functioning as well. Jean said that his mother was with him throughout the difficult time he was going through.
His mother however died after suffering a stillbirth.
“In a period of one year, I lost three family members. My younger brother, mother and another sibling,” he said.
He was later given prosthetics which he finally got used to walking in.
On completing high school, Ndayisenga joined a singing competition for talented disabled people and among the audience who had gone to the event was Deborah.
“We met at the competition. We talked but I could see she was curious…she kept asking if I wasn’t feeling pain standing for long in crutches,” he recalled.
The two exchanged contacts and kept in touch.
After five months, Jean fell in love with Deborah but was afraid to tell her that he did not have legs.
“She knew I had both legs and thought it was a normal injury because I had never shown her my legs,” Jean shared.
“I thought if she knew that I have no legs, she would leave me,” he added.
The couple decided to stay pure until marriage when they were still dating and stayed true to their word.
On the night of their wedding day, Ndayisenga told Deborah about his disability and she was shocked.
“After showing me who he was, it gave me a million reasons to love him more. It gave me superpowers. I realised I have to do more for him to be happier and forget his past. I said though he has no legs, that will not stop me from loving him,” Deborah stated.
