It has been established that suspects of the Shakahola massacre have been encouraging each other to follow their extreme teachings and beliefs to the latter.
Such teachings includes fasting severely to eventually meet Jesus Christ.
According to the prison authorities, the prime suspects and his co-accused have been exchanging letters while behind bars. One of the letters intercepted was dated July 22, 2023.
“From reading the contents of the correspondence, the police have reasonable grounds to believe that it contains religious instructions emanating from an extreme belief system that is subject to investigations into the Shakahola massacre,” Chief Inspector Raphael Wanjohi told the Shanzu Law Courts in an affidavit.
“The information provides a basis for fasting to death describing it as the only way to transition to be with ‘yesu’,” he further said.
The letter has since been handed over to DCI for it to be subjected to a forensic analysis in a bid to establish who the author is.
It could be as well published on media platforms to share secondary court proceedings and for the records.
Detectives have since discovered 214 torture chambers and fasting bays inside the 800-acre Shakahola forest.
So far, over 450 bodies believed to be of Mackenzie’s followers have been retrieved from the forest.
Meanwhile, Mackenzie and his associates will be detained for 7 more days following a court proceeding on the case on Thursday.
The 27 will be presented in court on October 19, where it will be determined if they will be detained for 6 more months while investigations on the matter that
