The Media Council of Kenya will take action against Sasa TV for breaching the code of conduct in the practice of journalism.
According to a press statement dated October 28, MCK said that the station will be punished for airing offensive content on October 9, 2021.
“The Council notes that the media house in question breached clauses 5 (b) (c) on Accountability and 10 (1) on Obscenity, Taste and Tone in Reporting by allowing a presenter, Apostle James Maina Ng’ang’a in a live broadcast from ‘Jerusalem City Kenya’ at 1024 hours where he uttered offensive and unprintable words on air,” part of the statement read.
MCK has directed Sasa TV to explain why the station should not be punished over the remarks made by pastor Ng’ang’a.
“We have subsequently directed the media outlet to show cause why action should not be taken against it, further to which the Council will institute relevant sanctions in line with our mandate,” MCK noted.
“Further, the Council notes the possible breach of the programming code for free-to-air radio and television services in Kenya and has notified the Communications Authority (CA) accordingly for investigation,” the statement further read.
MCK went on to warn media outlets and journalists against airing offensive content.
“We caution media houses, editors, journalists and media practitioners against airing offensive content as stringent penalties will be administered in line with the Media Council Act, 2013,” MCK said.
This comes after a video went viral on social media with Ng’ang’a telling morgue nurses not to touch his manhood when he dies during a church service in his Neno Evangelism Center Church.
“Me siku yangu nikiondoka, I believe my God has protected me. These nurses won’t get a chance to hold my private parts and say come and see what Ng’ang’a has,” the preacher said during the sermon.
The service was aired on Sasa TV on the said date.
In another controversial live sermon on Sasa TV, the pastor was heard telling his congregants that he had lots of women and especially from the Kamba community where he sired many children and that he now has lots of grandchildren.
“Ukambani uuuuu my friend… Ukambani mi nilitega mayai mingi kabisa aaiii nini… Ata naendanga Ukambani naangalia nasema ‘hii ni kama yangu hii” hehehehe oh my God!” Pastor Nganga said.
