Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has ordered for the immediate closure of gas businesses in residential areas.
Sakaja, who made the declaration during a visit to the Embakasi Explosion site, stated that the directive will enhance the safety of Kenyans.
Sub-county officials were further ordered to enforce Sakaja’s orders.
“have directed all sub-county administration officers to ensure all gas businesses operating within residential areas are closed with immediate effect,” he directed.
At the same time, Sakaja vowed to push for justice following the gas explosion tragedy.
“I want to assure Nairobians that the owners of the premises where the incident took place shall be held responsible and accountable,” Sakaja insisted.
The owner of the facility surrendered on Monday February 5.
Three government officials from NEMA were also apprehended.
However DCI revealed that five other suspects were still at large including drivers of the lorry which reportedly started the fire that led to an explosion which left six people dead and over 270 injured.
