Ruto’s ally Samson Cherargei said the proposed formula sharing formula must pass in the senate since they have the numbers.
Nandi Senator words come even as most of his colleagues in Tangatanga wing of Jubilee have vowed to oppose the government of the proposed bill.
Speaking to the Star Cherargei said: ” We are in top gear. The amendments brought by Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja will fall flat. They are populist, negative and their intention questionable; we will reject them.”
The senator questioned why the leaders opposing the bill drive the narrative that it will divide the country yet the senate made parliamentary decisions or legislation and policies before, and none has ever divided the country.
Senator Cherargei said they will shot down Sakaja’s proposal since they “have the numbers”. According to Cherargei the formula that was proposed by the committee was the best and no amendment was required on it.
“We are ready, we have the numbers. Sakaja’s amendments will be shot down. We will propose the motion moved by the Finance and Budget Committee chairman, Charles Kibiru, as it is. There are no two ways about it. The formula proposed by the committee is the best,” he said.
Cherargei told the Star to expect a serious showdown on the floor today as the Senate resume to debate on the bill. He further stated that the opposing faction cannot fight the government. According to his the opposition is just “fear-mongering”.
He revealed to the publication that the senators who had earlier opposed Senator Irungu Kang’ata’s amendment motion have all switched sides.

“Twenty-eight of us support this motion as it is. After discussions with senators who were perceived to be “losing”, we have a group that now supports us and is pushing for quick operationalization of the Equalisation Fund” said the senator.
“We have met several times and caucused ahead of tomorrow (today). They told us to kill them now, we are going to kill them quick. They told us to kick them now. We will deal with them on the floor.”
Cherargei, however, noted that the motion was not about politics but the constitutional obligation the Senate want to fulfill. He added that some counties have been gaining at the expense of others but had nothing to show for the money they get.
