Ruto Joins Forces With Martha Karua For Anti-BBI Campaigns Set For Next Week

Date:

Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua is among top leaders expected to meet Deputy President William Ruto next week, as anti-BBI voices grow louder as revealed Saturday 14th November.

It is revealed Karua, who has not had a good relationship with DP Ruto since 2007 was prodded by former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama and Service Party leader Mwangi Kiunjuri to join the Hustler Nation.

The DP has been putting together a strong team to put up a spirited campaign against the report despite his public calls for amending the document. Already, the president and Raila are adamant they will not listen to Ruto who has been against the BBI from the word go. Despite his (Ruto) continuous tantrums, the two leaders agreed to ignore him and not to respond to him.

Martha Karua has been opposing the BBI report ever since it was lauched.

Karua took issue with a statement by Raila on Friday, November 13 on the collection of signatures for the BBI.

“We will be launching the collection exercise sometimes next week. We want that exercise to be done as soon as possible so that the matter can be handed over to IEBC,” he said.

Raila said the BBI Bill should be ready by April so that the process can proceed to a referendum.

However, Karua questioned why the collection of signatures should take off while the document has not been fully read by Kenyans.

“What signatures are being collected when people don’t know what it is about. The county assemblies too need to understand the proposals says,” she tweeted.

Karua added that it is about time there was a people’s debate on the proposal and a leader’s conversation as it has been.

“It is essential that we have a peoples rather than a leaders conversation.”

She added: “The envisaged handshake was a ceasefire not an unconstitutional come we stay arrangement that has returned us to a near one party state.”

The Office of the President will officially gazette the BBI draft Bill on Monday or Tuesday next week, this is according to sources from the Office of the President as reported by Kenyan Report.

This latest move by President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to block any further push for amendments aimed at slowing down the entire process.

The gazetting of the Draft Bill next week was reached out on Friday evening, to also tactically push Tanga Tanga to react over the move to gazette the report, and covertly, force them to publicly declare their opposition for the BBI.

Meanwhile, while  Ruto and Karua plot their anti BBI campaigns, proponents of the report have revealed that the road for the BBI referendum is ready  as the exercise to begin the collection of one million signatures will kick start next week.

“We will be doing the launch of signature collection sometime next week,” Raila said.

Raila made the remarks on Friday at his office after hosting a section of leaders from the coastal region.

While giving his state of the nation address on Thursday during the joint sitting of parliament, President Uhuru Kenyatta encouraged Kenyans and leaders to support the Building Bridges Initiative report terming it as the future of Kenya.
