Silvanus Osoro, the South Mugirango MP who is a die-hard supporter of Deputy President William Ruto, has come out to refute claims that a secret meeting he held on Sunday, May 22, was a plot to ditch the DP’s camp.
The lawmaker intimated to a local news site on Tuesday, May 26, that his meeting with Kenya National Congress (KNC) party leader Manson Nyamweya was aimed at discussing other issues noting that they both served as South Mugirango MPs.
He further assured his supporters that he was in the DP’s camp for the long run.
“Parties meet often and we discuss various matters. The speculation of the content of the discussion is neither here nor there. To cut you short, I am in Deputy President Ruto’s camp to stay. All other stories, people imagining that we discussed plans to support Raila Odinga.
“KNC is neither in Nasa or Jubilee. We are an independent party that gives us the freedom to make a choice individually. I am in Ruto’s team,” stated the Lawmaker.
“Those are periodic meetings that people discuss. Manson Nyamweya is my former MP and I am his now. We can discuss development,” he added.
Reports had claimed that Osoro was plotting to jump ship after meeting with Nyamweya, highly touted as a close ally of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Ruto’s camp has experienced a shift since the Jubilee Party kickstarted the leadership shakeup that saw some of his allies such as Kipchumba Murkomen kicked out of top positions.
A majority of leaders allied to the DP approved the ouster of former Senate Speaker Kithure Kindiki save for Senators Kipchumba Murkomen, Aaron Cheruiyot, Christopher Langat, Susan Kihika, John Kinyua, Samson Cherargei.
Senators Millicent Omanga, Falhada Iman, Naomi Waqo, Victor Prengei and Mary Yiane, were some of whom who were facing ejection from the party that had a last-minute change of heart that dealt a blow to the camp.
