A heated exchange between Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya and Mumias East MP Ben Washiali nearly descended into violent fistfight.
Washiali confronted Oparanya accusing him of unfair distribution of Kakamega county funds towards key developmental projects.
Washiali who is a key ally of deputy president William Ruto lashed out at Oparanya who is an adherent supporter of Raila Odinga.
The who leaders were embroiled in a noisy argument in public while they were surrounded by their supporters.
The Mumias East MP shouted while insisting that Oparanya was blocking development projects in some parts of Kakamega.
The Kakamega county boss however countered Washiali’s accusations saying that the Mumias East MP was the problem.
Oparanya’s reply didn’t go down well with Washiali, he was infuriated with the response and he reacted by pushing him away.
The Mumias East MP attempted to physically fight the Kakamega governor but bodyguards quickly intervened and saved the situation.
The crowd that had mobbed the two leaders was rattled by the MP’s action of trying to fight Oparanya. They shouted in anger to express their frustrations with Washiali.
“Heshimu governor, heshimu governor,” the crowd chanted as some tried to hit Washiali for attacking the Kakamega governor.
