23-year-old Lucy Nyokabi and her boyfriend committed suicide by jumping from the fifth floor of Bigsal apartment in Mtwapa, Kilifi county.
The couple jumped from the bedroom’s balcony at 3am, the man only been identified as Rastaman was first to jump to his death followed by his girlfriend.
According to the apartment’s guard, he heard a loud bang in the backyard, followed by the deafening noise of a car alarm that immediately went off.
The guard went round to check what was happening, only to be confronted by the sight of a man’s naked body, lying on the ground.
While he pondered his next move, a second body this time belonging to a woman landed on his feet with a thud.
Shocked at the sight of falling human beings, the guard immediately took flight engulfed in fear, towards Mtwapa police station.
On arrival, the bewildered guard told police that there were ‘falling ghosts’ at his place of work. Detectives accompanied him to the scene where they discovered two bodies with multiple fractures, belonging to a man and a woman.
It was established that the woman – Lucy Nyokabi – was a tenant at Bigsal apartment and was cohabiting with the man who was only been identified as ‘Rastaman.’
Detectives established that Lucy and Rastaman had been fighting prior to committing suicide. The bedroom’s floor was flooded with blood while a glass table in the living room had been shattered.
Neighbors said an alteration erupted in the wee hours of the night inside Lucy’s apartment on that fateful Saturday night October 2nd.
According to witnesses, Lucy panicked after Rastaman jumped off their bedroom’s balcony and died instantly.
She figured that she would be the main suspect in his death and she ultimately decided to follow him and also jumped to her death.
“Alikuwa amepanic juu bwana tayari alikuwa ashafika chini, akasema mi nakufuata,” witness told the press.
Rastaman and Lucy had only stayed together for three months. Neighbors said the duo frequently argued in their apartment.
