DP William Ruto is under pressure after an audio emerged of him detailing how a confrontation between him and president Uhuru Kenyatta almost turned physical.
The second in command made the revelation during a meeting with elders from Kiambu county on Friday July 1 at his official Karen residence.
In the audio clip that has since gone viral the DP said that he almost slapped Kenyatta after the Supreme Court had nullified the 2017 presidential elections since he had given up the fight for the presidency and was willing to go back to his rural home in Ichaweri, Kiambu county.
“I want to tell you, we went into elections and won but this person[Raila Odinga] petitioned and it was decided that the election should be repeated. I don’t know why many people thought that if the elections are repeated I will go separate ways with Uhuru.
“I left this office(Karen) and went to the Statehouse, I found my friend, I don’t want to say what he was doing because we are grownups. There he is saying he is not keen on taking part in the repeat elections and that he wants to go to Ichaweri, that we should abandon this thing.
“I looked and him told him ‘You!’, I was just respectful of him or else I would have slapped him. How could we just quit?” he posed.
It is extremely disrespectful to imagine that you can even slap the President.
I wonder what you do to Rachel and all the Room 350 guests.

Apparently, the head of state was drinking when Ruto paid him a visit and that is how he ended up addressing the first rally after the nullification of the elections while drunk.
The DP has never made such a revelation before and he might have made them before the Kikuyu elders because he had some motives behind them.
First, The DP was telling the elders from Kenyatta’s backyard that he was the one who delivered the presidency to the Kikuyu nation. According to him it was by his efforts that their son managed to get the country’s top seat. In his narration it is clear that Kenyatta would not have become the president if he had not pushed him. So was trying to appeal to the support of the elders who are most likely to vote for his competitor Raila Odinga because that is the person that their kingpin wants to succeed him.
Secondly, Ruto was communicating to the elders that Raila is their enemy because he protested president Kenyatta’s win in 2017 and got his election nullified yet he is now supporting him.
The third reason why Ruto told Kiambu elders the story is that he was trying to clean his name from the reasons behind his bitter fall out with the head of state. Ruto was proving that it is Uhuru who betrayed him after all the support he had given him to become the president and not the other way round.
