Read The Constitution! Speaker Justin Muturi Angrily Fires At Azimio Allied MPs In Parliament

Date:

The speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi has told off Members of Parliament pushing for his resignation.

The pressure came from MPs allied to the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance after Muturi decided to join DP William Ruto’s camp, Kenya Kwanza, recently.

Addressing the house during the sitting on Thursday, the Democratic Party leader said that he was not willing to resign as they wished.

“Honorable members, those of you who feel that the speaker is not sufficiently impartial, please,  because the speaker who is before you is unwilling to resign. This you can take it to the bank please look at the provisions of article 106 of the constitution, there is no need.

“It is not the first time that I have been sponsored to parliament even in 2013 I was sponsored by a party. We have worked with you in very many endeavors so let’s not get carried away by the things happening around the country,” Muturi said.

Garissa Township MP Aden Duale who rose to speak after Muturi’s remarks defended the speaker saying that he had not committed any of the offenses highlighted in the article 106 of the constitution.

“By being a member of Kenya Kwanza, by being a leader of Democratic party, your removal is well stipulated in article 106 and all these allegations are not there Mr. Speaker,” Duale said.

On the other hand, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed insisted that they are now doubting Muturi’s impartiality after his move to join Kenya Kwanza, which was not the political party that sponsored him to parliament. Junet was supporting the motion raised by Otiende Amollo.

“We have never doubted your impartiality Mr. Speaker until we saw in a hotel in Karen, signatures and ceremonies happening, we started feeling that we might not get a fair treatment in the house. The issues being raised here can not be raised anywhere. These are issues that are going to affect us in this house for the remaining period,” Junet explained.
