Raila Warns Wanjigi To Desist From Opening Party Offices Without Permission

Date:

Raila Odinga through his Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) secretary general has issued a stern warning to those individuals like Jimi Wanjigi opening party offices without consultation.

According to ODM, establishing party offices across the country without the blessings of the party is not only a violation of their rules but will also attract disciplinary actions.

Thus, the party leadership urged the public not to enter into lease agreements with or arrangements for such offices in the absence of confirmation in writing from the Secretary General.

“We wish to remind all members that whenever there is a need to open any party office, the same must be done in consultation with the national office failure to which such offices will not be recognized. Further note that such brazen violation of the Party’s rules will attract disciplinary action to those involved. The Public and our members generally are urged not to enter into any leases or arrangements for such offices in the absence of confirmation in writing from the Secretary General.” Read part of the statement from ODM.

The above sentiments were seen as an indirect address to the billionaire Jimi Wanjigi who has single handedly been opening party offices across the country, a move that has not gone well with the opposition party.

This decision by ODM was arrived at during a meeting by the Central committee held at a meeting today Wednesday 29th September in Nairobi to deliberate on various emergent issues affecting the party and the Nation generally. The meeting was chaired by Party leader HE Hon. Raila Odinga.

The meeting also resolved as follows in a statement:

“Given the success witnessed with the Free Party Membership registration drive in the last 3 Months and the overwhelming requests to have the same continue, it was resolved to extend the free membership registration for ordinary members that was expected to expire on 30th September to 31st December 2021. We continue to urge all those who haven’t already joined to take advantage of this extension.

On the upcoming mass voter registration by the IEBC, we call upon the commission to deploy sufficient resources both human and material to ensure success.

Out of the 7 million targeted new voters, more than half are in the Party’s traditional strongholds.

It is our expectation therefore that IEBC shall deploy commensurate resources in these regions.

Meanwhile, we urge all party members, grassroots leaders and all members elected and nominated on the party ticket to now retreat to their respective areas to coordinate and support the mass voter registration drive and mobilize those who have no IDs to acquire them.

We have received alarming reports that there are some members of the party purporting to open offices in the grassroots without reference or consultations with the national office.”
