Raila Odinga says the Anglican Church asked him to withdraw his election petition.
Raila Odinga, the leader of Azimio la Umoja, has accused some religious leaders of prioritizing winning favor with the government over addressing social injustices.
He grieved that the church’s leadership had become heavily involved in politics, which, in his opinion, was evident in the just held elections.
On Christmas Day, Raila said the Anglican Church of Kenya leadership wanted the Azimio team to drop their Supreme Court petition contesting President William Ruto’s election.
“We were saddened to see the leadership of the Anglican Church getting involved in the political agitation, asking politicians, particularly those from Azimio who had petitioned the outcome of the election because of rigging to withdraw the case in the interest of unity,” Raila Odinga said.
