ODM leader Raila Odinga has landed in the country after Suna East Member of Parliament, Mohamed Junet, and Mombasa Governor, Ali Hassan Joho went to pick him up in Dubai, UAE.
The Orange Democratic Movement leader went to Dubai for a three-weeks-long surgery jetted in the country as incognito as he went out the first time.
The former Prime Minister made a low-key return on Sunday night aboard the luxurious Constellation Aviation Airline Airbus A318-112(CJ) Elite A6-CAS, MS4211.
The private jet landed at Jono Kenyatta International Airport a few minutes to 2200hrs having left the Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai, UAE at 0513hrs on the same day.
“Baba would have been welcomed by his supporters, but I don’t think that will be the case. To me the important thing is that the surgery went on well and he is recovering well at least by the reports that we have heard far seen,” ODM chairman John Mbadi had told reporters.
Notably, the flight tracking sites also indicated that the jet was initially scheduled to depart for Lusaka, Zambia on June 12. It was diverted back to Dubai as it flew over Saudi Arabia on its way to Zambia.
Raila underwent surgery at the Saudi German Hospital (SGH) Dubai and was seen to be in high spirits in a video shared by his daughter Winnie Odinga as he recuperated.
His return to the country is expected to give fresh impetus to the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) process with a referendum looming.
According to Paramount Business, a private jet charter company, the hiring cost of such a jet that the former Prime Minister boarded coming back to Kenya, is KShs. 500,000 an hour.
