Raila Odinga Announces When He Will Declare His Presidential Bid

Date:

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga revealed on Sunday that he will announce his presidential bid on December 9, 2021.

Raila made the announcement after attending a church service at Legio Maria church in Makongeni area, Nairobi County.

“Next month, on December 9, I will formally make the big announcement,” Raila told a crowd at Eastleigh.

He promised to ensure that no Kenyan dies of hunger if he ascends to power after the 2022 general elections.

According to the ODM leader, Kenya will witness a 10% economic growth during his first year of administration.

Raila rubbished claims by his critics that his plan to give Kshs6,000 to poor households is just a political game.

He promised to roll out the social protection programme in the region while citing countries like the US, Namibia and England that have successfully implemented the social protection programme.

“We shall bring the biggest social protection fund, some naysayers claim that I am playing politics, but this is a promise that I will deliver to Kenyans. Kenya is a social welfare state, all households with no a single person in formal employment will benefit from the Sh6,000 monthly programme,” Raila stated.

He also said that with his experience in serving as a prime minister during President Mwai Kibaki’s government, he will be able to run the government and ensure that the promises made during campaigns are kept.

“I have been Prime Minister of this country, and I know where to get money to implement these projects. I will first seal all the loopholes being used to misappropriate taxpayers’ money,” the PDM leader said.

He bashed DP Ruto’s bottom-up economic plan while saying that the youth need  a well-thought-out empowerment plan.

Raila was accompanied by former presidential candidate Peter Kenneth, MPs George Aladwa (Makadara), Junet Mohamed (Suna East), Walter Owino (Awendo), Esther Passaris (Nairobi), Timothy Wanyonyi (Westlands), Caleb Amisi (Saboti) and Godfrey Osotsi (ANC-nominated).
