Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga hinted at their 2027 game plan in a bid to unseat President William Ruto.
In the new scheme aimed at making Ruto a one-term president, Raila hinted at making Kalonzo the main man in the battle against Kenya Kwanza.
Speaking in Bondo during a thanksgiving ceremony for his brother, Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga, Raila insisted that the opposition would not be split to give Kenya Kwanza a smooth sail in the 2027 Presidential Elections.
“I heard Ruto saying that I will not vie and he is comparing himself to Kalonzo. I want to tell Ruto that Kalonzo is better than him,” he stated.
“We are seeing the games you (Ruto) are playing and we want to tell you that among us, someone will vie,” he added.
The Azimio la Umoja leader heaped praises on Kalonzo stating that he was loyal to their course.
He described Kalonzo as a straightforward leader and promised to support him.
“Twice Kalonzo was on my side and our victory was stolen. He has been steadfast. Even in the last election, he was not given the mantle as the presidential candidate but he stood with us,” he told the crowds.
According to political pundits, praising Kalonzo in Bondo, which is considered as an opposition stronghold, was one way of acquitting the people in the process of making a new king to spearhead their agenda in 2027.
It was also viewed as a strategy of watering down Ruto’s influence following a series of meetings and projects launched last weekend.
Head of Public Service Felix Koskei had earlier hinted that Raila and Ruto would unite ahead of the 2027 duel.
“You have seen the President visiting the region and holding a cabinet meeting in Kisumu. It is a sign that the government is getting closer to the region,” Koskei explained.
However, it is not clear if that would materialize after Raila hinted at supporting Kalonzo.
