Detectives Intercept Prado, Recover Drugs Worth Ksh11 Million

Detectives based in Kisii County recovered a consignment worth Ksh11 million after intercepting a Toyota Prado on Sunday, October 15.

In a statement, DCI stated officers on patrol sighted a sighted Prado that was loaded with suspicious consignment and was headed towards Kilgoris town.

The officers signaled the driver of the vehicle to stop but he defied the orders and sped and upon reaching Magena area, he made a quick U-turn back towards Kanyenye.

“When realized that he was being trailed by our men, he abandoned the vehicle within Metembe area and escaped on foot,” DCI stated.

“The vehicle was towed to Kenyeye Police Station and a detailed search was conducted,” it added.

Six sacks and fifteen bales of leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa all weighing 379Kgs were recovered.

The illegal consignment together with the vehicle were all placed in police custody pending further investigations.

That was the second interception within 24 hours where detectives recovered illegal drugs worth millions.

In Mombasa, another suspect was apprehended on Sunday, October 15 with drugs worth Ksh3.5 million.

“A Transnational Organized Crime Cartel has been dealt a blow following the arrest of one of their actors namely Benta Akinyi Ogola and subsequent recovery of Narcotic Drugs suspected to be heroin with a street value of Ksh3,540,000,” DCI stated.

“The Suspect was apprehended by TOCU detectives based in Mombasa and ANU detectives based at Malindi who while acting on intelligence leads intercepted the suspect who was carrying a brown carrier bag with the suspected narcotic drugs.”
