Raila Breaks Silence Over Roysambu and Starlet Murder

Date:

The leader of the opposition Raila Odinga has expressed concern over the recent cases involving the murdering of women in cold blood.

In a statement on Tuesday, January 17, Raila indicated that the cases have left families grieving and triggered panic in the country. While terming the new worrying trend as a threat to homeland security, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader demanded an end to the killings.

Raila asked the relevant authorities to expedite the probe and institute measures to avert the reoccurrence of similar cases in the country.

“It is sad to see a troubling increase in the deaths of young women, leaving a trail of grief for families and friends. The abnormality of these murders cannot become the new normal,” Raila stated.

“Murder is and will always be wrong, and there is no excuse. The ugly scourge of murder of women is now a national emergency.
It is a threat to homeland security. It must come to an end,” he demanded.

His statement followed the murder of Starlet Wahu in South C where the suspect identified as John Matara was arrested and the recent case where a 20-year-old was murdered and dismembered in the Roysambu area.

Detectives have so far arrested three individuals linked to the gruesome Roysambu murder.

One suspect, a Nigerian national, was intercepted at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) after he raised suspicion.

The suspect who was travelling using a Mozambican passport was intercepted before boarding a plane and interrogated at the airport before being transferred to the Kasarani Police Station pending identification.

Detectives are also studying the CCTV and details of the phone signal which was used to book a room by the main suspect in Roysambu.

Detectives are also searching for the head of the girl which was chopped off, her personal belongings including her clothes and mobile phone which are still missing.
