Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has taken a swipe at president Uhuru Kenyatta for publicly refusing to shake his deputy’s hand.
President Kenyatta has been captured keeping his hands to himself while meeting DP William Ruto on two occasions in the past few days.
First it was on Monday, when former president Mwai Kibaki’s body was being viewed at the parliament and secondly during his state funeral that was organized on Friday April 29,2022 at the Nyayo stadium.
President Kenyatta greeted DP Ruto by gestures as he walked away after DP stood by to welcome him as per the usual protocol.
While the president subjected his deputy to that treatment, he was seen embracing and greeting other leaders.
Through a post on his social media channels, Kuria said that was a sign of very bad upbringing.
“”Refusing to greet someone is backward, primitive, petty, childish and a sign of very bad upbringing,” the Chama Cha Kazi leader said.
Kenyan Canadian-based lawyer Miguna Miguna also referred to President Kenyatta’s move as primitivity
“To Dr. @WilliamSRuto: Continue EXPOSING despot Uhuru Kenyatta’s primitivity. Extend your hands. Smile broadly. The more despot Uhuru Kenyatta refuses to greet you or shake your extended hands, the more you continue to get sympathy votes and defeat the project,” he said through a tweet.
While president Uhuru refused to shake hands with DP Ruto, a separate photo showed the second in command shaking hands with former prime minister Raila Odinga while at the VIP waiting room at the Nyayo stadium.
The two are political rivals with each hoping to defeat the other in the coming general elections slated for August 9.
The two politicians have been throwing words at each other during their respective campaigns.
