President Uhuru Kenyatta today condoled with the family of veteran politician and freedom fighter, Paul Ngei. The Ngei family lost a son who has been struggling with illness for a while now. Joseph Kioli Ngei passed on at Machakos on Friday, aged 74.
In his message of condolence, the head of state lavished the departed son of Kenya’s freedom fighter as someone who did not just contribute to economic growth of Kenya’s economy, but was also at the pivot of various corporations in Kenya – having worked with Muhoroni Sugar Company, and later on East Africa Breweries Limited (EABL).
“I have received the news of the passing away of Mr. Joseph Kioli Ngei with a heavy heart. Joseph was a steadfast and highly accomplished Kenyan professional who served the country successfully in various responsibilities over the years,” said president Uhuru.
The president further said that, “He will be remembered mostly for his exploits in commercial farming and business where he excelled and contributed significantly to our country’s agricultural transformation through mechanization and adoption of high value commercial crops,”
Joseph Kioli Ngei is a son to one of the celebrated freedom fighters in Kenya, Paul Ngei. Paul Ngei was one of the pioneer Cabinet ministers in the administration that took over from the dictatorial colonial regime. It must be remembered that it was the current president’s father, the founding president Mzee Jomo Kenyatta that was in charge of the cabinet that had Paul Ngei as one of the first Cabinet ministers.
There has been a series of infighting in the veteran freedom fighter’s family as squabbles have been rife following allocation of property to other members. Other children have been of the opinion that some of Paul Ngei’s daughters ought not to have any inheritance from the property of their late father.
The president further prayed that God would grant the family, friend and relative peace at this time of grief.
