The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has suspended Kilifi North Member of Parliament Owen Baya who was accused of switching camps to Deputy President William Ruto’s Tanga Tanga brigade.
Baya was among the leaders who attended a meeting held by DP Ruto to strategise on the upcoming Msambweni by-election.
ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna made the announcement while speaking at the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Athi River on Saturday, September 26.
Baya also lost his seat as the party’s Deputy Organising Secretary. This means that he was also ejected from being a member of the NEC.
The ODM party also on Saturday, September 26, resolved not to field candidates for by-elections in seats previously held by the Jubilee Party.
In a statement, Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna announced that the National Executive Committee (NEC) had agreed to stand down in two by-elections after Jubilee opted not to challenge them in the Msambweni Constituency by-election.
“ODM has today through its party’s NEC resolved that it will not be fielding candidates in Lake View Ward in Nakuru County and Kahawa Wendani Ward in Kiambu County both of which were held by Jubilee,” Sifuna stated after the party’s NEC meeting in Athi River on Saturday, September 26.
Jubilee, through its Secretary-General Raphael Tuju had earlier stated that it would not field a candidate in the Mswambweni by-election as it was considering the cooperation agreement with ODM.

Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok on Saturday, took on an MP from his county who challenged his authority.
The legislator, Loima MP Jeremiah Lomorukai had accused the county boss of threatening county employees with firings.
“These employees should not allow themselves to be threatened. Some of them are even more educated that the governor, so it not right,” he stated.
Lomoukai claimed that the tactics used by Nanok were to facilitate theft from the county coffers by instilling fear in the employees.
“Before you sack them, we will sack you!” he threatened.
In a rejoinder, the governor stated that he would not keep officials who were engaging in politics in his administration noting that he was keen on achieving his promises to the people with the years remaining in his term.
He further called out the leaders who had resulted to abusing him for political mileage.
“Those leaders who are now abusing me even after I contributed immensely to them getting elected, their end is near,” the governor warned.
