UDA is conducting interviews for the nomination of the party’s flag bearer ahead of the coming general elections.
So far two candidates, Deputy president William Ruto and Tracy Wanjiru Kingoli, qualified for the interview and the third candidate, Oroni Jephnei is requesting for a waiver of the nomination fee and is expected to present the petition this Saturday.
Already the DP Ruto, and Wanjiru are at the Hustler Plaza for the hot seat and have had their papers verified as Kenyans wait patiently for the outcome of the interview.
Wanjiru is a 23-year old student of the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. She is pursuing Applied Bioengineering.
Wanjiru is a person living with disability. She applied to be nominated as UDA’s flag bearer in February 28 and was surprised to be called for the interview. She however did not pay the Kshs1 million nomination fee due to her condition.
“Well, it was some time earlier in the year when it hit me, we already know those who are running, no new blood, no new or fresh ideas or practical solutions for our country, maybe just a few.
“What struck me most was the lack of any female leader to openly say they are contesting the top seat or even a youth, who are always labeled as the leaders of tomorrow, hiyo kesho imefika and that’s why I decided to apply,” she said in an interview with Citizen Digital.
Kenyans however feel UDA is just stage managing their support democracy and this round they have taken things too far.
Tracy will not even be allowed to go for the presidential position because her age does not allow her.
“23 years old???? Does the constitution say that one needs to be 35yrs and above to be president of kenya ??? Ruto pretending to support democracy by going through a stage managed UDA presidential nominations, is Like, a Lion pretending to nurture a young antelope, in the end,the lion eats the antelope then starts hunting for the Mother,” a Facebook user identified as Marigiri.
A section of Kenyans have however congratulated Wanjiru for her bravery and courage.
