Pius Muiru’s wife Lucy Muiru testified in court against her sister-in-law Monicah Muthoni who is accused of killing the preacher’s mother Grace Wangari.
Pastor Muiru’s mother was enjoying her sunset years when she was brutally murdered and her body buried in a shallow grave in 2017.
Monicah Muthoni (who is married to pastor Muiru’s brother) and Ezekiel Saitambua (who was the watchman for pastor Muiru’s mother) are the main suspects in the case.
Muthoni and Saitambua killed pastor Muiru’s mother after she discovered their illicit romantic affair, they opted to eliminate her before she could take the lid off their extramarital affair.
The body of pastor Muiru’s mother was discovered in a shallow grave in her homestead in Kigumo, Murang’a County on the night of March 20th 2017 after she went missing.
Testifying in Murang’a law courts on Thursday December 16th 2021, pastor Muiru’s wife Lucy Muiru said her late mother-in-law was always at loggerheads with Monicah Muthoni.
Lucy Muiru said there was bad blood between Muthoni and the late Grace Wangari, that they were constantly having arguments at home and there were numerous sittings held to reconcile the two.
Pastor Muiru’s wife said she suspects her sister-in-law’s hand in the killing of her husband’s mother, claiming that after getting a report of her disappearance, she called her (Muthoni) asking the whereabouts of the late Wangari and she was told she had left home the day before but had not come back.
“I got a call from my husband and he told me their mother is missing and the first person I called was Muthoni because they used to live in the same compound. Muthoni then told me that our mother-in-law had left the previous day carrying a small bag and that she said she would be back but never showed up,” Lucy Muiru said.
Lucy was the 10th witness to testify in a murder case trial. Another witness Elizabeth Nyambura testified against Ezekiel Saitambua that same Thursday.
She said that Saitambua had given her several household items among them TV set, two mattresses and recorders which she later came to learn belonged to late pastor Muiru’s mother.
“I had known Ezekiel for about three months and he brought me the items to help me settle down after I walked out of my matrimonial home,” Elizabeth Nyambura said.
Detectives had earlier established that even though Saitambua was having an affair with the wife of pastor Muiru’s brother – Muthoni, he was also secretly dating Elizabeth Nyambura who lived in the nearby Mariira town.
The items belonging to pastor Muiru’s mother were discovered in Elizabeth Nyambura’s house in 2017 when police launched a probe into the death of the preacher’s mom.
In her testimony in court, Nyambura said she got a call from Kigumo police station to take the donated items.
Two more witnesses including the government pathologist Johansen Oduor and Leah Wanjiru have been slated to testify on February 22, 2022
