Kakamega County governor Wycliffe Oparanya has said that ODM is yet to decide on who will be the flagbearer in the coming elections.
Oparanya and Mombasa governor Joho are the only ones who applied for the presidential nominations but to date, the former chair of council of governors says that he has never received feedback on his application.
Speaking in an interview with Citizen TV, the governor said that he did not go silent after expressing his interest in the country’s top position but it is only that the party has not processed his application even after he paid the required fee.
“First of all, I never went silent. As a party, ODM has its own nomination procedures when it comes to presidential nominations. In one of the meetings we agreed to nominate our presidential candidates as early as possible so that our members can know the presidential candidates,” the former chair of council of governors said.
“I paid the Ksh.1 million and we were told that was the height of COVID-19 so we could not be allowed to meet delegates and campaign and then we were told that our application could not be processed for that purpose and thereafter we have not gotten information,” he added.

He however said that he would not hesitate to support ODM leader Raila Odinga’s presidential bid once his application is not considered but hopes that he would also give him a chance in future to give his shot at the presidency
“We have been going around with the party leader and people have been urging him to stand for presidency. If you see people urging him and you are there and people are not urging me then why can’t I support him,
“I will give him a chance and I hope that in future he will also give me a chance to try my luck as the next president, after him,” Oparanya said.
