“One person has been killed and we have several others injured,” Mungania said.
Chaos began after youths blocked roads at Kenol, and started engaging the rival groups in running battles.
The police are currently investigating the circumstances under which one person died in the chaos.
Several vehicles were also vandalized, as the main highway to Nyeri remained impassable for several hours.
The Deputy President was scheduled to preside over a fundraising event in Kenol, at 9:30 am at the AIPCA church hosted by area MP Alice Wahome and Kiharu MP Ndidi Nyoro.
It is the second time Ruto’s visit to Muran’ga has been marred with violence.
Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata who witnessed the chaos asked the Deputy President to always liaise with the area residents before visiting the county.
“Stop this power struggle, it’s causing the Nation too much trouble. Endangering lives of innocent ones.”, Bunny (Power strugglers). Passed Kenol on my way to church in Muranga.
“Saw chaos among the youth ahead of some political visit. We heed HE advise and work for the people first,” noted Kang’ata.
