Obado Dumps Ruto Month After Hosting Him In Migori, Refuses To Rejoin Raila’s Camp

Date:

Migori governor Zachary Okoth Obado has ditched deputy president William Ruto and announced who he is supporting for president.

Speaking during an interview with LTV, Obado announced that he is no longer endorsing Ruto as he will be vying for president himself.

Obado revealed that he will seek the country’s top seat through his party People’s Democratic Party (PDP) come 2022.

He said that PDP will fill all positions come 2022, and that he will also fly the party’s flag in the presidential election.

“Am still hoping that God willing I should also be considered to be president because that seat – the presidency – is not a preserve for one or two individuals,” said Obado.

He added that;

“So PDP come next year mimi ntakua natembea hapa na pale naomba kura na watu wa Kenya wakikubali ni Obado mimi ntashukuru, na nitawafanyia kazi kweli kweli sana sana ntaangalia hi maneno ya wakulima.”

The Migori governor was elected governor through PDP ticket in 2013 but sought re-election in 2017 through ODM ticket.

The controversial governor fell out with ODM leader Raila Odinga leading to his move from the party back to PDP.

Obado began warming up to Ruto after the fallout with ODM, he hosted the deputy president in Migori a couple of times.

Ruto was accompanied by Obado when he launched a charm offensive in Raila’s Nyanza backyard, holding a major rally in Awendo town, Migori county on September 25th.

While addressing residents, the DP appeared to suggest that he would work with governor Obado’s party PDP.

However, Ruto’s ally Boni Khalwale while speaking during an interview on K24 on  September 29th said that the DP told Obado to fold PDP and join UDA.

DP Ruto has insisted that all parties backing him must dissolve and join UDA, a move that has put him at loggerheads with several party leaders who support him including Obado.

Ruto’s fallout with some of Mt Kenya leaders led by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and The Service Party (TSP) leader Mwangi Kiunjuri was as a result of shunning coalitions deal with what he terms as ‘village’ parties.
