Nyandarua governor Francis Kimemia served as the head of public service in the government of retired president Mwai Kibaki, he knows exactly how the deep state works.
Deep state are influential individuals who are close to power, operating within the shadows of Kenya’s political scene.
Kimemia offered an insight into the activities of the deep state while speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday September 21st.
The Nyandarua governor mentioned six ways the deep state works in Kenya. He said powerful people identify and bankroll individual(s) they support for vie for the country’s top seat.
Kimemia explained that the person deep state supports must be credible and electable to the Kenyan mass so as to influence the voting pattern to their favor.
He also asserted that the candidate deep state supports must win even if they are in a tight race with their closest competitor.
“The state exists, but I can assure you it could be deeper than deep. If you have two candidates at the rate of 50-50, and the Deep State backs one, you can be sure that one will win. The candidate must be credible and electable, that becomes very important if the Deep State are to support a candidate,” said Kimemia.
The Nyandarua governor also revealed that deep state works hand in hand with international community.
“We’re forgetting also the international angle, this country has a lot of interest from the international, and they also influence a lot. I can assure you, from where I sat, they influence a lot…in many many ways that I can’t discuss here. So if they combine with the Deep State, you can be sure your goose is cooked,” stated Kimemia.
He further divulged that deep state is deeply engrained in every level of the Kenyan society, with grassroot networks in the village.
“Deep State also includes people in the villages , it goes up to the polling stations. It doesn’t necessarily mean rigging elections. But a popular candidate backed by the State, it would be foolhardy to assume that you can be able to defeat that candidate,” said Kimemia.
