The National Police Service has issued a statement to update Kenyans on the health status of Inspector General of police Hillary Mutyambai.
According to NPS, Mutyambai who had been on official duties outside the country is not unwell.
“Contrary to social media speculation through a post by http://opera.news that Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai is unwell, NPS wishes to clarify and assure Kenyans that the IG is fine, healthy and on duty,” NPS stated.
NPS further said that the IG was back in the country after participating in the AGM of East Africa police bosses.
“The IG returned into the country this morning after a tour of duty in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, where he participated in the 23rd Annual general meeting for Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) 2021,” NPS said.
NPS further asked Kenyans to ignore such false information.
“The Kenyan delegation was led by Mr Wilson Njenga, Secretary Security in the Ministry of Interior and National Coordination. Such reckless, malicious and unverified reporting should be ignored with contempt,” NPS added.
This comes after a section of social media users claimed that the police boss was unwell. It was reported that Mutyambai was rushed to a hospital after collapsing on Saturday October 16.

Further speculations also arose when Mutyambai failed to engage Kenyans on his weekly forum dubbed #engageIG.
A similar occurrence was witnessed in May when Mutyambai was said to have been admitted at a health facility in Nairobi city.
Reports implied that Mutyambai had spent over a week in hospital where he was attended to by doctors in the private wing of the health facility for an unknown medical condition. The police denied the claims, stating that he was around and working.
They further alluded that the IG was only taking a temporary break from the office.
