No Time For That Nonsense! Gachagua Takes Stand on Mt Kenya Kingpin Debate

Date:

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday, November 5 dismissed claims that he was angling himself to become the next Mt Kenya kingpin.

Speaking in Kiambu County during a church service, Gachagua made it clear that he was not interested in the Mt Kenya kingpin debate.

The Second in Command instead insisted that he was focused on helping President William Ruto deliver on his campaign promises.

Further, he took a swipe at those dragging him into the regional contest stating that it was a baseless debate.

“I have read the constitution, there is no provision for a kingpin. Where is the kingpin office? How much is his salary? If there are people who want that office, I am not part of it, I am deputy president,” Gachagua remarked.

“My office is in Harambee House, another in Karen, and there is a salary… and a job to do. If there are people interested in that position, let them take it.”

According to Gachagua, his purpose is to see the region rally behind President William Ruto, including those who voted in favour of Azimio la Umoja Coalition in the 2022 polls.

“When I called for the unity of this region. I did not call for the unity of this region behind me, I called for the unity of this region behind President William Ruto,” he said.

On Friday, November 3, Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria took a swipe at an identified leader over the kingship debate raising eyebrows.

“Sasa venye King amerudi kwao ( that that the king has returned to the UK), fake Kingpins you can take over,” Kuria wrote on X.

At the same, politician Maina Njenga recently alleged that former President Uhuru Kenyatta was set to pick the next Mt Kenya kingpin in December.

It is however not clear if that is true and the leaders eyeing the position which likened to a regional spokesperson and de facto leader.
