There will be no more Western region political meetings for Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula at least for now with the increasing virus cases.
Amani Nationa Congress (ANC) and Ford Kenya party leaders have suspended all their planned regionals meetings in Western.
This comes after a decision was reached at a meeting led by ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and his Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Wetan’ula on Thursday under the Western Union Solidarity Movement.
The two leaders urged all political leaders to follow their lead and support the President in the fight against Covid-19.
“In light of this grim scenario and after broad consultation, we have suspended our outreach programs which involved scheduled meetings in the Western region,” the leaders’ statement read.
“It’s in this spirit of containing the Covid-19 spread that we also challenge other leaders to put the lives of Kenyans first by emulating our stance.”
ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi had earlier called Ministries of Interior and Health to ban all political gatherings to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
According to Mudavadi, the political meeting are exposing vulnerable Kenyans, especially those in the rural areas to the risk of contracting the deadly virus.
At the meeting, the two leaders also asked the government to clear all the debt issues in the sugar sector.
They claimed the government had not shown documents confirming that the debts had been successfully cleared.
