The first wife of former US president Donald Trump was discovered dead at her house in New York on Thursday July 14 afternoon. 73-year old Ivana Trump was discovered dead by the police following a wellness check request from an unknown person.
According to the police, she was found at the bottom of the staircase and they believe that she died of cardiac arrest even though more investigations will unravel the exact cause of her death. Authorities do not suspect foul play in her demise.
Ivana got married to Trump in 1977 but the couple got divorced in 1992. They were however blessed with three children namely Ivanka, Donald Junior and Eric.
Trump announced the death of Ivana through his social media platform Truth social.
“I am very saddened to inform all of those that loved her, of which there are many, that Ivana Trump has passed away at her home in New York City. Ivana was a survivor. She fled from communism and embraced this country. She taught her children about grit and toughness, compassion and determination,” read the statement from the family.
Born Ivana Marie Zelníčková, the mother of three was brought up under Communist rule in the former Czechoslovakia. Her talent in skiing opened an opportunity for her to travel around Europe. She eventually got married to an Austrian skier and moved to Canada.
After working as a ski instructor in Canada, Ivana launched a career in modeling and that is when she met with Donald in 1976.
The former US president was however engaged in an extra marital affair in late 1980s and that is how their marriage hit the rock bottom, with the divorce being finalized in 1992. She however decided to keep her husband’s surname after the much publicized divorce
