NCIC Probing Sunday’s Incident Where DP Ruto Was Chased From Kieni

Date:

The government has launched investigations following an incident whereby Deputy President William Ruto was attacked on Sunday.

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) is probing the incident which DP Ruto’s motorcade was stoned and blocked from accessing a church in Kieni, Nyeri county.

Aside from the that, the commission is also probing incidences whereby supporters of ODM leader Raila Odinga  and those of DP Ruto clashed in Githurai leading to injuries back in January 27 and when Baringo senator Gideon Moi motorcade was blocked from accessing a part in Nandi on January 2,2021.

According to NCIC, it is so clear that a  worrying trend is forming.

Through a press release, NCIC said it is working with DCI to ensure that the perpetrators of the Sunday incident  and those of the previous incidents are brought to book.

“We must therefore condemn in the strongest terms these acts of intolerance and use of abusive language on the national stage. As the NCIC in conjunction with the DCI we are looking into these matters with the view of filing criminal charges against the people behind these regrettable and barbaric Acts,” the statement reads.

NCIC reminded the citizens that politicians have the right to access any part of the country to spread ideas.

“The NCIC would like to remind Kenyans that all politicians have a right to spread ideas to all parts of the country. This is the best way for us as a nation to weigh our options as we approach 2022. We must as early as now reject these acts of intolerance which if not checked will degenerate into violence.” The statement reads.

The body further warned politicians who have personalized their regions making them unapproachable by their competitors.

“It is with this in mind that we would like to warn politicians who have decided to lock their regions and make them unapproachable for their competitors to be ashamed of themselves and that we will be filing criminal charges should we find any of them responsible for such acts of intolerance. As well they must control their supporters because they too will face the full force of the law,” the statement says.

The commission further noted that the trends are what will determine how things will be during the 2022 general elections.
