National Police Service warning to Raila Odinga and Azimio Supporters ahead of today’s rally at Kamukunji

Raila Odinga will lead Azimio La Umoja supporters at Kamukunji rally today.

Kenya Police has sent a strict letter warning Azimio supporters of the consequences that might follow if they decide to cause chaos today.

Raila Odinga and the leadership of Azimio are planning political gatherings to force President Ruto to adhere to their call.

Raila Odinga says some of the important items in his agenda include the suspension of the four IEBC Commissioners led by Juliana Cherera, the high cost of living, the introduction of GMO maize, lack of balance in government positions distribution across Kenya in President William Ruto’s recent appointments.

“The National Police Service acknowledges today’s rally at Kamukunji but they have issues rules and warnings to Azimio La Umoja supporters and their leaders.

The National Police Service takes cognizant of the planned political rally by the Azimio Party scheduled for 7th and 12th December, 2022 in Nairobi.

In respect of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 under Article 37 which provides that every person has the right to peaceful gathering, demonstration and picketing, the law further provides under Article 33(3) of the Constitution that in exercising the freedom of expression, every person shall respect the rights of others.

In this regard, the National Police Service will provide adequate security for the planned rallies, and we call upon all members in attendance to maintain peace.

However, any breach of peace shall be dealt with in accordance with the law.”
