William Ruto allies led by Kipchumba Murkomen were forced to flee for dear lives as Pro Uhuru and Raila supporters in Nyeri chased them away.
The Elgeyo-Marakwet senator together with his Kericho counterpart Aaron Cheruiyot and Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa campaigned in Nyeri county on Sunday while Ruto was in Murang’a.
Murkomen and his team met faced a hostile crowd in Nyeri while drumming up support for Ruto and their new political outfit UDA.
The team was heckled by rowdy residents who chanted President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga’s names denying the Tangatanga politicians an opportunity to address them.
In a video that has gone viral on social media platforms, pro-Raila and Uhuru chants filled the air as Murkomen desperately tried to calm the crowd in order to address them.
At one point, the Elgeyo-Marakwet senator was shut down by the hostile crowd and was ultimately forced to cut short his speech and police were forced to control the Irate crowd.
The team was forced to leave the place immediately to avoid chaos which would break out anytime if they insisted on staying.
As the entourage was leaving Nyeri town, pro-Raila and Jubilee posters were hoisted by residents who had gathered in the area.
Nyeri county is perceived to be Ruto’s stronghold, the DP has been crisscrossing Mt Kenya to solidify his support ahead of 2022 presidential vote.
However, Raila has been making inroads in Mt Kenya and his support in the region has been increasing exponentially as Ruto’s support plummets.
Surveys conducted by research firms have indicated that Ruto’s popularity in Mt Kenya is dwindling at an alarming rate as Raila’s approval rating keep rising.
The drastic decline in Ruto’s popularity is perhaps the reason why the DP has increased his campaigns in the region in recent days.
