Mount Kenya region seems to be lining up the former presidential candidate, Peter Kenneth as the next regional kingpin ahead of the 2022 polls if the current speculations are to go by.
On Saturday, Murang’a leaders held talks with Peter Kenneth in could have stemmed from the perception of the leaders increasing dalliance with anti-Uhuru forces.

At the three-hour meeting, the leaders agreed to work closely and in consultation with Kenneth to support President Uhuru Kenyatta’s agenda.
They also agreed to work with Kenneth to unify the region to rally as a bloc behind the President.
Peter Kenneth caused speculation after a picture of him emerged in a meeting with Amani Musalia Mudavdi who is said to be in a coalition arrangement with Deputy President William Ruto.
Rumors also have it that the former Gatanga MP could be up to greater things, and a desire by Mt Kenya to front him has the region’s kingpin.
The rumors came when he (Peter Kenneth) joined Justin Muturi, Agriculture CS Peter Munya, Governors Ndiritu Muriithi (Laikipia), Kiraitu Murungi (Meru) and Majority Leader Amos Kimunya for a lunch meeting at Panafric Hotel in Nairobi.
Other leaders who were also present at the lunch meets were; Governors Lee Kinyajui (Nakuru), Muthomi Njuki (Tharaka-Nithi) and Kirinyaga Senator Charles Kibiru were also present.
According to the leaders, the meeting was held to congratulate Munya but Kiraitu who almost let the cat of the pocket about the agenda of the meeting said, they discussed some political issues affecting the Mount Kenya region.
Sources say that Mt Kenya is positioning Kenneth as a potential running mate in the 2022 presidential race or a post in the expanded governance structure proposed in the BBI
Reports also indicate that there was a little misunderstanding about Kenneth’s support for Uhuru’s agenda and unity of Mt Kenya.
The delegation at Saturday’s meeting had earlier claimed Kenneth was playing politics which was not directed towards President Kenyatta’s agenda.
At the moment, Kenneth is believed to have declared his readiness to work with the Jubilee government to help President Kenyatta achieve his vision for the country.
Nduati who was present at the meeting said they would now rest east after getting Kenneth’s position “from the horse’s mouth.”

Nduati added that they had agreed to work together to solidify the President’s support in the Mt Kenya region for the remainder of his term.
“We will then face the 2022 succession politics as a team to ensure that the region remains intact,” Nduati said.
Kenneth is among those being fronted in the President Kenyatta succession politics with another team saying is thought to be fronting Health CS Mutahi Kagwe.
Kenneth is however being supported by the big wits in the region since he is viewed as the most qualified to work with President Kenyatta and hence best placed to present the region’s interests.
