Mombasa Governor Acts After Heavy Flooding

Date:

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff on Friday November 17 directed residents to contact rescue persons following heavy flooding.

In a statement, the Governor stated that the situation had been made worse by three days of heavy rainfall.

“The country is currently experiencing unprecedented rainfall that resulted in widespread flooding. The rains have persisted since yesterday here in Mombasa.

Our rescue teams are on hand to deal with emergencies.

Please reach out through the contact hotlines below for medical and rescue emergencies,” Shariff wrote.

Hotline numbers provided by Mombasa County Government to help address the flooding situation.

Areas around Kisauni, Bamburi, Shanzu, Bombolulu were heavily affected by the rains.

Flooding water rendered roads impassable while halting all normal activities in the county.

Kenya Red Cross also shared statements warning residents to remain vigilant and avoid walking through or driving in flooded areas.

The Kenya Metrological Department had warned of heavy rainfall in the region.

In their update, the weatherman indicated that El Nino phenomenon was also still a threat despite earlier statement from President William Ruto.

Ruto had indicated that the country would not experience El Nino but just heavy rainfall.

This slowed preparation exercise in various counties in preparation for the heavy rains.
