Mohammed Ali’s Bid To Impeach Matiangi Gains Steam As 92 MPs Sign Petition

Date:

Lawmakers allied to deputy president William Ruto have been yearning to impeach Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi for so long and now they are inching closer to their dream.

Nyali MP Mohammed Ali is spearheading the campaign to impeach Matiangi at the National Assembly as he plans to introduce the impeachment motion on the floor of the House.

Ali came up with the petition to impeach the Interior CS on grounds of gross violation of the Kenyan constitution.

The Nyali MP alleges that Matiangi has been promoting extrajudicial killings which are perpetrated by the police and has also abused his powers among other charges.

Ali has already collected signatures from 92 MPs who supports his petition to impeach the controversial Interior CS.

Most of the lawmakers who have signed the petition to remove Matiangi from office are allied to deputy president William Ruto.

“Fred Matiangi Your time is up. Signatures ready. We are going to impeach you for killing kenya,” wrote Mohammed Ali on Facebook.

Ali’s petition is unlikely to sail in parliament as lawmakers allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta, ODM leader Raila Odinga, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi are likely to shoot it down.

Matiangi ruffled the feathers of ODM party before especially in during the Bonchari by-election early this year.

The Interior CS was accused of using state machinery to frustrate ODM in a bid to help Jubilee candidate win the election.

Several ODM officials including Kisii governor James Ongwae were arrested and intimidate by police in the runup to Bonchari by-election.

During the by-elections, ODM’s Pavel Oimeke (9,049 votes) emerged as the victor, followed closely by Jubilee’s Zebedeo Opore (7,279 votes).

Bonchari had been pegged as a face-off between Ongwae (ODM) and Matiang’i (Jubilee) who had campaigned for their respective candidates.

Matiang’i reconciled with Raila and Ongwae on July 1st when they met in Nairobi in a meeting that was also attended by other Gusii leaders.
