Reports reaching the Sonko News desk is that a modern coast bus on Monday evening went up in flames along the Chavakali Kapsabet Road in Vihiga county.
According to Sonko News reporters in Vihiga county, the modern coast bus caught the huge fire under mysterious circumstances with other road users staring helplessly.
The incident led to huge traffic snarl up in the busy Chavakali kapsabet road with netizens asking why the Vihiga county firefighters were not in the scene to save the situation.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident happened at Mudete near Chavakali junction involving the Modern Coast bus and two other cars. It is reported that the bus was heading to Mombasa from Kakamega county before the accident happened.
At the same time, our sources have so far established that there were no casualties since all the passengers managed to get out of the vehicle alive. It is not however clear if the occupants of the two cars made it alive.
“That road is very narrow and not well maintained. The saddest bit for me though, is that no one here seems bothered by the fact that none of the people at the scene of the accident is running helter skelter to save lives. They are casually milling around the scene ~ and others recording on their phones ~ as fellow humans burn alive, and die the most agonizing death thinkable.” Said one who was around the scene.
In the meantime, Seven people were in 2019 confirmed dead and 62 others injured in an accident that involved two buses belonging to this same company.
Makueni county police commander Joseph Napeiyan said the Modern coast buses headed in opposite directions collided head-on in the 2am accident.
One bus was headed to Mombasa from Malaba while the other was headed to Nairobi from Mombasa.
A two-year– old baby was among those who lost their lives in the accident involving two Modern Coast buses at Kiongwani near Salama market on that fateful Thursday morning.
One driver was among five people who died on the spot while the baby and the other driver were reported to have succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment in the hospital.
“The injured were rushed to Sultan Hamud for treatment but 17 had serious injuries and have been transferred to other health facilities including Shalom and Machakos referral for specialized treatment,” the police boss said.
