Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has expressed concern about the worrying trend of coronavirus spread with the counties.
As of yesterday, 32 counties have already registered coronavirus cases, with Makueni being one of the latest counties to confirm a case of the disease.
CS Kagwe has urged county governments to take collective responsibility to curb the spread of Coronavirus.
“This is a worrying trend and we must collectively work in taming the spread,” said Kagwe. The Cabinet Secretary was accompanied by CS Joe Mucheru cabinet secretary Information and Technology and Kiambu Governor James Nyoro in his daily brief of the disease in Kiambu.
“The readiness of the counties is commensurate with cooperation between the executive, the legislature, and the common wananchi;” Kagwe said.
On Thursday 28, the Cabinet secretary reported 147 new cases with Nairobi leading with the number of new infections bringing a total of 1618 cases with the country.
As of yesterday, Nairobi county had a total of 835 confirmed cases followed by Mombasa which has 490 cases while Kajiado and Kiambu followed with 65 and 39 cases respectively.
At the press conference, Kiambu Governor James Nyoro said his county has assembled coronavirus units in Kiambu, Thika, and Gatundu level hospitals with a 60-bed capacity. He also identified Tigoni Hospital as an isolation center.
Governor Nyoro mapped Soko Mjinga market along Nakuru-Nairobi Highway has hotspot which has already recorded 5 cases. Other hotspots identified by the county include Githurai and Makongeni markets in Thinka, Kiambu town with its environs, and Kwa Maiko in Githunguri.
