Mike Sonko has been cleared in the Ksh 20 Million graft case against him.
Additional charges against Sonko included up to 30 counts each of taking bribes, money laundering, and conflict of interest.
He had been accused of attempting to embezzle Ksh 24 Million from the Nairobi County government as part of the plot.
However, Noordin Haji, the director of public prosecutions, has stated that he will challenge the magistrate’s decision to acquit Sonko.
He claimed that the magistrate participated in the pretrial proceedings and approved the charge sheet, which he had not determined to be flawed.
“On who received the money and how, we have strong evidence. We will appeal the decision right away “DPP stated.
Sonko wrestled with the police before being hoisted onto a chopper and sent to Nairobi.
He then asserted that he’s a law-abiding individual and that his arrest was a result of political reasons.
Sonko was initially charged in December of 2019.
