Interviewing lawyer Miguna Miguna is one of the hardest tasks that some journalists in the country have been put through.
The deported lawyer was interviewed by Ben Kebwato Omweri of KDRTV on Friday night and the interview was not a walk in the park.
The hard time came after Miguna explained why he chose DP Ruto over Raila Odinga even though he claims that Ruto is corrupt.
In his explanation, the lawyer claimed that Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta were out of their way to bring back one party dictatorship which must be stopped.
Kebwato however told him that those were his opinions and that the ODM leader was there to defend himself.
While responding, Miguna noticed that his microphone had been muted and all hell broke loose.
“Why are you muting me? If you are interviewing me, I don’t want you to interview me. This has to be a free exchange and if you mute me again I am going to end the interview, because we are not going to play games with this interview, make sure you people do not mute me again” Miguna warned.
Kebwato however said that it was a technical issue that they were experiencing but Miguna could not hear any of that and went ahead to raise another issue that was eating him up.
“The question I am asking, you are saying we, who are you speaking on behalf of , interviewing me, you have to interview me as Bernard Omweri Kebwato, a Kenyan, don’t interview me on behalf of anybody. Interview me as you,” he told the journalist
Defending himself, Kebwato said that he was being interviewed by a media house and was asking questions that had been brought forward by Kenyans.
“But you are a person, when you say we, it is as if you have been sent by a group of people to say what you are saying. You have to say I because you are speaking for yourself,” Miguna responded.
“Nobody has sent me. Thank you Dr. Miguna but when we started the interview I told you very well that we have questions from Kenyans, we are not actually choosing. We are asking questions and you have answered them well, you are doing well Dr. Miguna,” Kebwaato insisted.
“It is not about doing good, transparency is very important in communication. If you have a question from a specific individual, say who they are so that I know. Let them not hide behind you. Say so and so from this place is asking this question,” Miguna answered him.
“We are not asking questions based on any individuals. You can actually go on twitter and see how people are asking questions there but let’s continue,” Kebwato said as he attempted to cut short the lesson but the Canadian-based lawyer went ahead with his lecture.
“Bernard, only individuals can ask questions, everybody has one brain, only the brain generates a question. Whoever they are, I need to know who is asking the question so that I can answer it. I don’t want this kind of they know who I am. You are putting the questions to me but they are hiding you. If it is Makau Mutua asking questions, I need to know it is Makau Mutua, If it is Raila Odinga asking the questions I need to know it is Raila Odinga,” Miguna said and the interview went on.
