Meet Michelle Morgan, Ex Tv Anchor And Brains Behind The Controversial Alchemist Bar And Restaurant

Date:

Michelle Morgan was one of the big names in the media industry some years back before she quit to concentrate on her personal businesses.

Her journalism career began in August 2012 at Citizen TV where she would anchor the lunchtime news and prime time business news. She landed the job just a year after completing her Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Advertising and Applied Communication from Middlesex University in London, UK.

After about a year and 7 months at the SK Macharia-owned station, the mother of one found a new home at Ebru TV in May 2014 but she did not stay there for long.

After 6 months of service, Morgan quit and two months later K24 hired her. She worked at the station for three years and later quit to pursue her interests.

She  joined her late father’s security firm, BM security, which was founded in 1984, as the executive director. Her father Bob Morgan was a senior assistant commissioner in the late Daniel Moi’s regime.

Before joining the security firm, Morgan and her husband Peng Chen were already in the bar and restaurant business. The two were operating the Alchemist bar and restaurant, which was officially opened in December 31, 2015  Westlands.

“ We decided to open the Alchemist because we wanted a new, open, airy space where the music was the focus and around that we could have a huge variety of different arts, food, and fashion. And to be honest, we all had “ADD” and were incapable of doing one thing or hearing one thing, or seeing one thing at a time at night. We always wanted that huge variety. So we decided to put everything great in one place,” Peng said.

The establishment offers a wide range of services ranging from  event hosting, live music, chill out spot, lounge, bar, nightclub wifi among others

Alchemist has however been facing a series of racism allegations with the most recent being the case of a black man being turned away from an entrance reserved for the white and Indians.

A video of the occurrence that surfaced on social media  irked Kenyans who are demanding for the bar to be shut down.

The Nairobi county government has however taken up the matter to determine whether the racism allegations are true.

Peng and Morgan officiated their marriage in 2019 at a private beach wedding and together they have a son.
