Linet Chepkorir Toto was filled with tears of joy after she emerged victorious in the hotly contested women rep nomination in Bomet County during the UDA party primaries that were held on Thursday.
The 24-year old, who was the youngest contestant in the category, succeeded in beating 10 others despite her humble background.
Videos shared on social media show her shedding tears of joy as she is congratulated by her kinsmen for winning the first step towards becoming the Women Rep for the county.
“I want to thank you for standing with me throughout this journey and fulfilling your promises by voting for me. I’m grateful because I know I received overwhelming support from this region where I come from,” she told her supporters after she was announced the winner.
Chepkorir became an internet sensation after she was accused of intruding DP William Ruto’s residence in Karen when he was meeting with aspirants from Rift Valley on November 9 last year.
She was blocked at the gate with security guards informing her that she was intruding a meeting that was way above her standards just because of her poor dress code since she could not afford to upgrade her wardrobe.
Chepkorir was casually dressed, in a yellow hoodie, green dress and rubber shoes, nothing compared to the elegantly dressed aspirants that were ushered into DP’s official residence without questions.
Determined, she stood her ground giving the guards a piece of her mind by telling them that she was not less than the other aspirants that were allowed to the meeting. Chepkorir waited at the gate for close to an hour before she was ushered in.
“Eventually, after about an hour, I was allowed in after I showed them my passcode to the meeting; electronically generated for members who have paid UDA aspirants’ fee of Sh6,000,” she told the Nation publication.
She took a seat at the back of the tent after failing to secure a position at the front rows, but the meeting had not begun. She got a chance to take a photo of herself and prove to the world that she was at the official Karen residence and that is how she ended up trending.
Chepkorir is a second born in a family of seven. She began her education at Kapsimbiri primary school. She later joined Kapsimbiri secondary school in form one before transferring to Siwot secondary school in form three. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Chuka University.
The nominee has been campaigning by use of boda boda as other aspirants moved around in classic vehicles. She managed to raise her nomination fee and campaign funds through contributions from her supporters.
Reacting to her victory in nominations, some have felt that she has no leadership qualities as others congratulate her.
